Buttermilk Biscuits
Makes 16-18 Biscuits depending on the cutter
Ingredients:
- 3 c flour
- 1 3/4 tsp. salt
- 2 tbsp. honey
- 2 tbsp. baking powder
- 2/3 c butter flavor shortening
- 1 1/3 c buttermilk
Directions:
In a bowl add buttermilk and honey. Stir until combined and set aside.
In a large bowl sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Add in your shortening and cut into the flour using a pastry cutter or a fork. (I don’t have a pastry cutter, I’m not that efficient LOL. I use a fork.) Basically your smashing the shortening and flour through the tines of the fork.
Keep it up until your flour mixture looks like crumbs.
Make a well in the center of your flour mixture and pour in your buttermilk mixture. Using your hands knead the dough it becomes a soft ball of dough that isn’t sticky.
On a lightly floured surface pat the dough out with your hands into a 1/2 inch thickness. Cut your biscuits out using a Biscuit Cutter or drinking glass. (Again, not efficient enough to have a biscuit cutter. I used a glass LOL.)
Once you have your biscuits cut out place them onto an UNGREASED cookie sheet. You can place them pretty close together as they will rise but not spread.
Ball up the remaining dough and repeat the process until you have used up all your dough.
Bake at 425° for 9-12 minutes or until the tops are golden.
These are SOOOOOOO good right out of the oven! AND if you are like me and enjoy breakfast for dinner, try these in your favorite biscuits n gravy recipe!
